Tradovate and TS have pros and cons. TradeStation software is much more powerful. Their desktop app only runs on Windows though. I use tradestation on my windows (on my mac) which works pretty well for my needs. It's good right out of the box, lots of different commodities and currency futures for reasonable margin. $3-4k will be enough for a couple micro/ commodity contacts. I wouldn't recommend ninjatrader. Really outdated and the whole "lifetime license" is nonsense.
