Nov 2, 2012 · Hums are usually low frequency 60 cycle and are caused by poor shielding or an open ground. Feedback is high frequency often around the pitch of a whistle and caused by RF feedback into the mic line. Reducing the mic gain or adding chokes or bypass caps help here. The last symptom is confusing.

The D104 handheld element is working great, but it doesn't fit like the original element does. So I used some foam to locate it and center it. The number on the old, bad element is 'MC 320'; sure would like to find an original that still works. Even the replacement elements are only 2" in diameter, and the original element is 2 1/2".

Even the newer models are excellent. Can't go wrong with it. I think the older D104's battery situation is a bit outdated - though. The newer D104's require the common and much cheaper 9v battery - instead of the older and harder-to-find 'stacked' battery found in the older models of these mics. However, I also have a Realistic TRC432 base CB with a mic conversion plug for four pin to realistic which works well with other four pin mics.
