The fuel flow per float bowl needs to be in the region of 0.5 lb/hour/ hp for gasoline, about 0.8 for ethanol or E85, and 1.3 for alcohol. It's not difficult to hook up a pump and regulator to a fuel bowl with the float dropped just shy of its full travel and weigh what passes through it in one minute.

After the engine is warmed up and you are satisfied that the idle speed is properly set up, your first step is setting the pump arm preload spring. To do this, tighten the nut/ bolt assembly that compresses the spring until there is a slight amount of clearance (0.001 to 0.005 inch) between the head of the adjusting bolt and the pump arm.Holley made this change much easier with a simple lock screw and adjustment nut that allows the tuner to modify the float height.
