Installing a moen cartridge.

Grasp the cartridge stem with pliers and pull the cartridge straight up out of the valve assembly. Using a Philips head screwdriver, unscrew the stem extension. Reattach the stem extension to the new cartridge. Insert the new cartridge assembly into the valve assembly.Removing The Cartridge. 1. Slide the copper clip (#3) out of the valve body (#4). Note: The copper clip (#3) is installed between the gaps on the valve body. 2. Using the plastic twisting tool (#2), provided in the 1225 cartridge kit, rotate the cartridge (#1) 1/4 of a turn (90 degrees) in either direction to help loosen the cartridge (#1). 3.The 96778 kit comes with 2 small and 1 lager O-ring and a pack of silicone lubricate. 3. Use a flathead screwdriver to gently pull each spout O-ring off from their respective groove in the valve body. (We recommend using a soft tip marker to mark where the original spout O-ring was removed from for proper placement of the new spout O-ring.) The Moen WS84550 faucet uses either the Moen 1224 2-Handle Replacement Cartridge or the Moen 1234 cartridge, depending on the year of installation. You will need to remove the handle but holding the lever and rotating the hub counterclockwise to see if the cartridge stem is white (1224) or silver (1234).
