The update to 1.21 includes a server wipe. Wipe means everything in the game is reset to day zero. Everyone starts anew as a freshie. All bases, vehicles, equipment stashes etc are deleted as a clean fresh new game starts across the whole map. It was just the official dayz servers is what we found out….. which is pretty shitty to hear. I’ve had other issues with dayz killing my internet when I try to connect to modded servers, to fix that check the integrity of the dayz files, and when the dayz window pops up clear the firewall settings and it fixed that issue….most community servers wipe at every DayZ update (Yes it's a pro and con but that's because sometimes you don't want a wipe at the update) I've said hackers/script runners can be less of a problem on community but saying that, the issue that has cropped up over the last year or so say otherwise unfortunately (topic for a different discussion)

Idk if they have "clusters" on dayz but I do believe you'll have a new character for each community server you try. At least it is that way on console. Community servers seem to be wiping on the 18th (Thursday). I'd imagine they must have had some kind of heads up, would be pointless to wipe a day or two before update.
