I took it in for the valve adjustment, and I was informed that it had a bad coil pack and 1 cylinder was misfiring and this was the cause of the stall, not the valves being out of whack. Hi all, I just completed a valve adjustment on my 2012 Honda Pilot Touring hoping to solve a ticking noise when the engines rpms increase. I do not hear the sound at idle. I have listened with my mechanics stethoscope and I can hear the ticking coming from the valve cover over cylinders 1-3. Honda recommends the valves being adjusted every 100-105k. If a valve gets tight you are going to burn it (basically a hole will form) and cause some expensive repairs to remove the cylinder head and install new valve(s). Can’t say I’ve seen a lot of any Honda V6 have this issue but I’ve seen a lot of the inline 4s burn valves.Note: The list of tools below are a complete list to adjust any type of valve system. After putting it back together and starting it up, the valves make more noise than before. All the intake valves were a bit loose at .010 to .011 so I tightened them up to around .008.

I recommend some silicone grease (like Sil-Glyde or 3M silicone Paste) to help them into place. PS: Set your exhaust valves on the looser of the two settings. These Honda V6's usually wear the exhaust valveseats over time which makes the clearance get tighter as time goes by. The last thing you want is to burn a valve.
