Its a heavily underrated weapon but with an incredibly monstrous range, also great for punishing and putting the pressure on, just careful with those backstabbers so mixing it with a sweep weapon or the force miracle is a must. Decide what is more important to you: the ability to safely poke your opponent outside of their range, or higher critical damage.Bait out the running attack seems to be your best bet. Otherwise you are looking at run into their face and parry which will be backstab bait for anyone with half a brain. Best to bait out the running r1 for the predictive first hit parry or abort. Balder Side Sword blows the entire Rapier weapon class out of the water by having a thrusting R2. If you are dead set on a Rapier you definitely want to have a high Int or Faith to use a buff on it.
