Dec 14, 2019 · Shipped in 1956 and a early model 39 shipped in Jan 1959. S/N 6xxx. There were only 972 steel frame model 39s ever sold in the mid 1960s. The frames were actually made as pre production frames but stored until the 1960s. Your serial number is from 1963-1965 likely.

I say early 1982 because later the same year, serial numbers went to a 3 letter prefix on all S&W revolvers. Since your gun has a 2-1/2" barrel it is also a "round butt" frame with a smaller grip to make the gun more concealable.
