What a trip up the mountain. This is the second time I've ridden the Cog Railway, the first time was 30+ years ago. The trains and railway have been updated and are much more modern now. The trip up is spectacular with all of the scenery as you climb from about 6500 feet to over 14000 feet. It uses a Marsh rack system and both steam and biodiesel powered locomotives to carry tourists to the top of the nountain.The railway is about 3 miles long. The train ascends the mountain at 2.8 miles per hour and desends at 4.6 miles per hour.Steam locomotives take about 65 minutes to reach the top. Read more.
